Happy Easter!
After 40 days of a solemn season of Lent, Easter finally has arrived and with joyful voices we exclaim, “Alleluia! Christ is risen. Christ is risen indeed!”
Christ is risen. This sounds so easy and so convincing. And after all, the resurrection is the center of our faith. Yet, there are times when we realize that it is not always that easy. Coming to grips with the resurrection and making sense of all the events surrounding Jesus resurrection for our daily lives is anything but easy.
When we listen to the voices of the witnesses of the resurrection in different gospel accounts we see that they also needed some time to learn, to understand, and to apply it to their lives. The empty tomb caused different reactions even among the early disciples. Some saw it and believed; others didn’t get it at all; some were just terrified and didn’t mention it to anyone; others proclaimed the resurrection of Christ right away.
Easter, the resurrection of Christ, is an open-ended story. It is about the forgiveness of sin, and eternal life, and about Christ’ presence in our lives. God has given us this tremendous gift. We may not always understand the whole depth and all its implications in detail, but we keep learning about it and we keep growing in faith just as the early disciples did. Let us embrace it in joy and thankfulness, because Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
