August

When my husband and I go on a road trip across the country, the space in our car is limited. Therefore we can only take what we really need: A tent, sleeping bags, food, hiking boots and a few more items. Naturally, we do not have a TV set, or a sofa, or a nice stove, or a refrigerator with us. On our first trip years ago, we did not even have a phone. The funny thing is that while we are traveling, I do not miss these items at all. Quite to the contrary, I enjoy the simplicity of this time. Yet, if you took these things away from me while I am not on a vacation, but living my regular life, I would miss, maybe not all, but certainly some of them. It is harder to live simple and to “travel light” while being at home, even though, life would probably be easier and less stressful if we had not to maintain and worry about “the stuff” we have.

Matthew got it right when he wrote, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your hearts will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

This season of traveling and vacationing can be a reminder to travel light and to maintain doing this even at home.

Happy Travels!

Beate Storck, Pastor

July

The months of July and August are big traveling months of the year. A lot of people take time off and enjoy the shore, the mountains, or exotic places abroad. It is a good time to recharge, to discover new places, to just get away and relax.

Usually here at the church this means that things are “going a little slower”. Certain ministries such as the Sunday School go into hiatus until September. However, even though things slow down during the summer, not everybody goes away. There are actually quite a number of people who stay right here. Therefore we will continue with our Adult Forum on Sundays and our bible study on Wednesdays here at Trinity.

So whether you are from this area and staying home during the summer, or if you are a visitor to the Tenafly area, please come and join us for worship and check out these programs.

If you are traveling we wish you safe travels, exciting and new experiences, and a lot of fun.

Enjoy your summer!
